Sweet Cherries Ahead
While hitchhiking through the countryside, two women, Dove and Helen, are drawn into a mysterious and unsettling underground world. What begins as a search for freedom spirals into a nightmarish descent, where trust fractures, reality blurs, and survival demands impossible choices.
Produced by Ubumuntu Production Group as part of a film venture with the creative studio Satanic Panic, Sweet Cherries Ahead is a cine-dance thriller that refuses to sit quietly in one genre. It’s horror, performance, music, movement — and a little bit of beautiful chaos.

Created by Nicole Iustolin (writer & producer) and Elena Goldberg (director), the film pushes the boundaries of contemporary horror by merging cinematic storytelling with physical intensity, psychological depth, and an unmistakably feminist edge. The story sits firmly in the “Good for Her” horror tradition, exploring female rage, survival, and revenge through visceral imagery and emotional confrontation.

Blending horror cinema with the language of dance and experimental narrative, Sweet Cherries Ahead introduces a striking cinedance aesthetic — one where bodies speak as loudly as dialogue, and violence becomes both metaphor and release.

“Making horror is fun. It’s how we dig into the darkest corners of the mind and shine a light on what’s hiding there,” says Nicole Iustolin. “The worst monsters aren’t really monsters once you understand the horror. They’re just shadows on the wall.”
Director Elena Goldberg describes the film less as genre entertainment and more as an emotional reckoning:
“Sweet Cherries Ahead isn’t just something you watch for thrills. It’s therapy with blood under its nails. It lets you feel the rage, live the revenge, and walk through every ‘what if’ you’ve ever carried when justice didn’t arrive.”

Following its Amsterdam premiere in 2025, the film quickly drew attention for its uncompromising tone, raw physical performances, and fearless exploration of power, exploitation, and transformation. Now released digitally, Sweet Cherries Ahead invites international audiences to experience its cherry-red vision of horror without borders.

Sweet Cherries Ahead stands as a testament to what happens when artists are given room to experiment — and when cinema is allowed to get a little dangerous.
